The Bishops - Sojourn EP

By Luke Thomas

The Bishops

London’s The Bishops have returned with not only a new EP, but a new member and a new sound to boot as the band offer a shift in musical direction. I have to say I quite like these guys on first listen. Their ‘Sojourn EP’ is a great mix of contemporary rock and alternative songs with a slight feel of jazz tot them. The three brothers Alex, Peter and Mike (Alex being the younger brother of twins Peter and Mike, who has just joined the band and brought in a strong influence on their new material) - show from the opener of the EP ‘Nowhere To Run’, that they can all sing and use their voices in good harmony chorus as they sing “I’ve got nowhere to run to”, making you feel the catchy element of their sound. ‘Finding out’ is another song on the EP that stands out for me as it kicks off with a catchy guitar riff that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

When you listen to the EP it is hard to put a finger on any influences for this band, which is a compliment as it shows that these guys are unique in what they do. The release of the EP as the weather starts to take a turn for the better, as the sun comes out is perfect timing as The Bishops definitely has a summery feel to their sound. The Bishops have already enjoyed a lot of success in Europe and will soon be returning to UK to try and emulate that. Keep an eye out for these guys as UK shows will be announced in the near future.
