The Exhibition - 4 Track Demo
By Pete Angell

This is the third demo from The Exhibition (not to be confused with those of the same name from Bristol). This Barnsley based outfit have a lot to offer, and each release has been causing a fair bit of excitement in their surrounding Yorkshire area. As they race towards their debut single, set to be released in the middle of the year, this acts as a tie over - a shrewd move as it keeps their ever expanding fanbase on their toes and prepares them as they try to tackle the whole of the UK. With the improvement in quality each time around, that challenge seems reasonably feasible.
The key elements throughout the four tracks is their intelligently entwined guitar work, eye for inventiveness and knack for float away choruses. They seem breezy on the surface, but there’s that underlying edge of delightful darkness which keeps them dangerous. ‘Bright New Worlds’ brags a indie rock hipness that hints at grander capabilities. Both ‘The Boy and The Tearaway’ and ‘Reaction’ have that classic indie feel to them. This will no doubt reach a mass appeal for fans of such bands as The Smiths, Joy Division and maybe even New Order, and who also want that modern twist in their music. Opener ‘The Boy and The Tearaway’ sets the standard of not just the E.P, but their overall direction. They look to be doing a good job so far, and with this acting as a warm up for their initial debut release, they appear to be paving an intriguing path for themselves. I wonder where they’ll be this time next year?
